I passed by this guy climbing up a sheer cliff. It's a great rock
climbing wall, because the rock is very porous so there are all these
small holes in it where you can grip the cliff. However, the
climber was very well outfitted with rope and rock-climbing gear.
I went up just a short way beyond the rock-climbing cliff and was in dry
creek bed next to the creek. It was covered in a canopy of trees
and surrounded by the rugged mountain-side. The rocks were covered
with a bright green moss. The sun was beaming through the trees
and the mist, it was incredibly beautiful. I set up the
camera and took the series of photos. I figured I had enough
photos for the day so I headed back. On the way back, I worked my
way to the middle of the river valley to get one last photo. I had
a real hard time getting the last photo. The camera back was
constantly disconnecting from the computer. I made it a point to
get to the bottom of this issue when I returned.
After I returned, I set the laptop to batch process the raw digital
files and upload them to my external hard drive on my desk-top machine.
The wireless network I have plus the Airport Extreme on the mac laptops
makes this a breeze. When this completes I run my Dell Inspirion
laptop to do the photo stitching and post processing. I use this
Dell because it has the best graphics card of all of my machines, but it
can run very hot. The photo stitching worked well, I did
require some additional work to fill in areas that were skipped because
some photos did not overlap. But I fill in some missing areas
manually and retouch some areas at the seams to make them blend in.
The results were spectacular. Better than I had hoped for.
I'm not bragging about my own abilities, but more about my luck and the
equipment and software doing their parts to create outstanding photos.
I think the results could qualify as fine art, and I am going to make a
new section on this web for these types of photos. These
photos are at such a great resolution, that they can be greatly enlarged
at 300 dpi and retain photographic quality.
You can see these photos in the new
fine art print section.
As a follow up note: I finally did find the source of the problem
with the camera disconnecting from the laptop. A bad firewire
cable. I found a small hole with exposed wires at the base of the
connector. I have a new cable on order.
